Earth Friendly Products: Safeguard Your Home (Review & Giveaway)

There are some things that men just don’t understand about women.  In our house – it’s hair.  I have long, thick hair.  Beckett has sweet, ringlet-curled, long auburn hair.  The dog is 85-pounds of wool-coat-like hair.  What’s it all add up to?  A LOT of hair.  On the couches.  On the carpet.  In the lint trap.  On our clothes.  And, in our drains.

Jacob hates the drain hair.  No matter how many ways I say it or how many times he complains about it – all I can say is that “It is natural”.  I can brush, comb, prune, groom and try any number of things to curb the inevitable onslaught of shedding, but it’s still gonna end up in the drain.

Compromise is one of the keys to a happy marriage.  Jacob’s is that he will clean out the drain (now, that IS love!).  Mine is that I won’t intentionally clog the drain (some love right back at ya!) and will help with the cloggage by finding and purchasing a suitable eco-friendly alternative to that toxic waste most of us call drain cleaner.

Well, I found it from a company that we are already pretty familiar with.  It’s the Earth Enzymes from Earth Friendly Products.  The ECOS detergent by Earth Friendly Products has been in use in our laundry room for years now because it works really well, is available in a ginormous container from Costco and fits the earth-friendly bill.  So, I jumped at the chance to give their Earth Enzymes drain opener a try.

The Earth Enzymes drain opener is incredible.  It requires a bit more pre-work and some mixing so you can’t just squirt it straight from the bottle like the standard toxic drain cleaners, but it is AMAZING!  And, it’s environmentally friendly.  Inside the container are a bunch of enzymes who’s mission it is to eat through and digest your drain gunk.  With a quick mix and an overnight sit, our kitchen sink drain, garage sink drain and shower drain {!!!} were left completely free-flowing.

Have you ever heard the advice to toss chopped up cabbage into your septic tank to keep it running smoothly?  Know why?!  The bacteria that live in your septic tank, and who love it there, feed on bacteria, waste and apparently cabbage {!!}.  It’s their home.  And, they do a good job at making a septic tank function seamlessly.  The Earth Enzymes drain opener keeps this home bacteria friendly and cleans your drains while giving the septic tank the “oomph” it needs to run efficiently.

If you ever thought you needed harsh chemicals that require masks, adequate ventilation and rubber gloves to clean your drain – I challenge you to try Earth Enzymes from Earth Friendly Products.

As I write this post, I am reminded of the last “hoorah” that winter is throwing up here in the Pacific Northwest.  Outside my window, the nor-easter is swirling, the snow is falling and the busy bodies braving the elements are bundled up.

One of the selling-points of our house was a lovely landscaped rock-garden-like entrance outside our front door.  It’s a good fifteen-foot stretch of rocks that ensures clean feet, de-mudded boots and no tracking of the outdoors into our living room.  For all its beauty and practicality – it’s a p.a.i.n. when it comes to snow and ice.  Why?  You simply CANNOT clear it of the slippery white stuff.  The shovel picks up rocks and displaces the flatstone steps along with snow.

In previous winters, we have always shied away from our icy front area and hoped that the mountain of snow that built up would discourage would be visitors from walking to the front door.

Well, this year was different.  We got our hands on some Ice Melt from Earth Friendly Products and love it.  Like all their products – it’s all natural and safe for pets, humans and the environment.  But, it’s perfect for quick results on slippery walkways and melts that black-ice that you don’t notice until it’s too late.  I like that it comes in a recyclable container and the “detergent-design” makes it easy to distribute the granules and eliminates waste.

I love that Earth Friendly Products first appeared in our lives in the laundry room, but have made their way into the rest of our home and outdoors.  I appreciate the value of a company that can bring safe, honestly-effective and eco-conscious products into multiple niches in our home and lives.  Thank you Earth Friendly Products for goodness inside and out.

It’s still winter here! Snow is coming down right now and the wind chill makes it 19 degrees!

  2. Eileen Martin says:

Yeah the snow is finally melting and I do not have to walk up our hill. Though I did make a trail with Ice Melt. Would be interested in trying the earth friendly. Especially for our dog’s poor paws.

I would LOVE the drain cleaner! Our house, and therefore our plumbing, is 95 years old and regularly needs to be cleaned. The baking soda/vinegar trick is cool for a volcano, but doesn’t do much to clean a drain!

Earth Friendly Products are awsome. We’ve finally got rid of our snow, but the Ice Melt is a definate for next year. I’d also like to try the Drain Opener as I’m not finding much that really works, and isn’t full of nasty chemicals.
