GGG: Gifts Galore (Reviews & Giveaways!!)

Santa Claus is getting his sleigh ready, the ovens are cranking out one belt-busting delight after another and the tree is festooned with ornaments and gaudy gala.  Tick-tock-tick-tock goes the countdown to Christmas! And, it’s time for another handful of super awesome gifts that have made my “Green Gift Guide” list.  Gift giving for us this year has focused on products with a purpose and a message.  I want the gifts under our tree and delivered with our name in the “from” line to be aligned with what we are doing.  If I can get these same gifts to be useful, imaginative and just awesome – or anywhere in between all these – I am ready to toast a cup of eggnog! Enjoy these goodies and keep celebrating the whole year long! Happy Holidays from our home to yours!

Green Gift Guide: Gift’s Galore!

IKEA – Fabler Set In the toddler world of It-Must-Be-Like-Mommy’s, I often find myself searching for something that fits this criteria, but works for little hands and little abilities.  IKEA has the perfect stocking stuffer for that grown-up toddler on your list.  It’s the Fabler 3-piece cutlery set and its price tag is under $5.00 (a.k.a. stocking stuffer budget).  The set is stainless-steel (think – NO more plastic!), about two-thirds the size of an adult set and even has a serrated, but not dangerously sharp, knife.  Beckett loves it! Where to buy?  Check out Ikea’s website for locations.

Hape Toys: Forming the Future Oh, oh, oh – I love me some beautiful wooden toys.  In fact, I think that Jacob and I enjoy some of Beckett’s toys as much as she does.  After taking into account the delightful creativity that most wooden toys offer (sans electricity!), you have the environmentally-sound material they are made of and high-quality paints that decorate and adorn the toys. Hape Toys is one such company with a ginormous array of wooden toys under their umbrella.  And, Santa has found a few goodies to stick under our tree for Beckett.  The first is the fun, fast-moving E-offroader.  It’s a wheeled-vehicle made out of bamboo and decorated with water-based paints.  And, Oh.My.God – it smells like a beehive.  It is sealed with beeswax and the smell is absolutely divine (I am a bit partial, ya know!).  The second goodie is gonna move right from our Christmas tree to the play kitchen we have.  It’s a set of healthy foods – eggs, milk, yogurt and juice – all wooden, all beautiful and all-natural.  I appreciate it’s quality and the attention to detail, but I really like that it promotes healthy eating and  wholesome foods. The knowledge that my daughter is playing with toys that are safe, non-toxic and promote sustainable materials is a blessing.  Hape toys are the gifts I want to give and receive this holiday season! Where to buy?  Check out Hape’s website for locations.

Eat Cleaner: All Natural Food Wash + Wipes I go ga-ga over stocking stuffers and I unabashedly admit to spending upwards of one-third of our budget on these delightful pocket-sized goods.  Tucked in the stocking you are sure to find some organic, local chocolate and all-natural candy canes, but there are also oodles of the practical stuff.  Nothing chintzy. Baby wipes are my go-to for pretty much everything when it comes to quick clean-ups-on-the-go with the exception of my fresh food.  Eat Cleaner, a proud partner of Healthy Child Healthy World, makes a travel package of biodegradable food wipes.   They are the Grab-N-Go Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Wipes.  The fresh food that we eat at home or while out and about is organic, but that doesn’t mean that it’s free of that silky coating of wax or some of nature’s critters that hung on for a ride.  The Eat Cleaner products make it possible to clean fresh food at home, in the car, back of a bus, on a park bench or as you literally run maniacally frazzled from one errand to another.

The cleaners have all-natural plant based ingredients and are completely odorless and tasteless.  And, bonus – they remove 99.9+% of Salmonella and E.Coli from the surface of food!  Now, that’s something to spread some holiday cheer about and stick in a lucky stocking!

Pure Blankz – Organic Fashion The farther down this project road we go, the better dressed in organic clothing Beckett is getting.  But, Jacob and I are left wallowing in the dust waiting and watching her dance off in darling digs.

Well, that’s where Pure Blankz comes in.  Yes, they do have the adorable kids clothing, but they also have wonderfully fashionable and high-quality organic clothing for adults.  A complete line for woman and a manly, rugged t-shirt for men.  Their designs are simple and each one boasts low-impact inks and eco-friendly dyes.  And, I love that their clothing is a template for customization and wholesale retailers, too.

It is so refreshing to see a company offering a closet-full of organic clothing options for adults, keeping prices affordable and even offering a twist on standard classics (like the mock turtleneck below!). Want to get your hands on some Pure Blankz?  From now until December 24th – Sacred Bee Blog readers enjoy a 25% discount when using the code “greenbee”! Bloomin’: The Seed Paper People A few years ago, a sweet aunt of ours had a beautiful summer wedding and the favors were wildflower seeds.  Garnishing the darling bags were sweet messages of remembrance as the flowers bloomed the following season.  It was a special sentiment and a wonderful way to celebrate their nuptials. I love the idea of a gift that keeps on giving.  Bloomin’ Seed Paper is a wonderful way to spread some good eco-conscious cheer and bestow a gift that lasts so much longer than the initial enjoyment.

The seed paper comes in an array of different styles; gift tags, greeting cards, bookmarks and postcards and the dyes are organic, soy-based inks. The flower varieties are endless and the paper backing is made with 100% recycled post-consumer waste (love it!).  Bloomin’ Seed Paper adds just the right personal eco-friendly touch to your gifts!

Thanks for the giveaway. My favorite tradition is singing songs with the lights off and the Christmas tree on with the kids.

One of our special traditions that I love is taking time to open gifts, one at a time so you get to fully enjoy each person’s experience and knowing about the giver and the story behind the gift. It can mean learning about patience (for children and adults!) and it means so much more. Stockings first, then breakfast, then gifts. There don’t need to be many…just time for them. 🙂

  4. Lauriel says:

We are looking forward to a large Christmas morning breakfast, eaten in stages, in between present opening!

    I follow using googlereader!

  6. TZel says:

I do not celebrate the holidays, but am looking forward to spending time putting together a puzzle with family this winter as I have in the past 😉 Thank you!
