Innocent until proven guilty?

I take the approach of guilty until proven innocent when it comes to my daughter.  Prove yourself to be safe.  Prove yourself to be trustworthy.  Prove yourself to be caring.  Well, that’s not the approach our government has taken with regulating chemicals.  It’s innocent until proven guilty.  The burden of proof and demand to clean up our chemicals falls on the shoulders of zealous parents, watchdog groups and non-profit organizations.

Here is an update on Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, latest work to classify, regulate and remove harmful chemicals from our homes, our school and our environments.  It’s not perfect and there is still a looooonnnnnnggggg road ahead, but I think that we’re headed in the right direction.

Side note: If you are able to get your hands on the two-part special by CNN called Toxic America that Dr. Gupta hosted in June 2010, it’s top-notch.
